Waiting for the RIAA’s response
I’ve read a half dozen versions of the story I reported yesterday about file-swapping being down. The Pew Institute released research showing that allegedly illegal downloading was “down” by 50%. In not one of these stories has anybody asked the real question of the RIAA.

Have CD sales gone up proportionally?

Since this was the basis for their unprecedented action (suing their own customers), one has to wonder. The answer is no, CD sales have not gone up proportionally. That’s because file-swapping never was what was hurting industry sales. That, methinks, has to do with two things: price gouging (and fixing) and the homogenized pap that comes out the end. sigh!
