Something’s different about “The Sopranos”

What is it?

Product placement ads. You think Porsche didn’t pay for that attention about its new Cayenne, including Carmela’s, “…like the pepper” comment?

The camera also panned a box of Nesquik on the kitchen counter. Was that an ad?

So, rather than the character lifting up the box of Nesquick and saying the company pitch (like they used to do in the 1950’s) then getting back to the script, we now have the products woven into the “lives” of the characters–and the characters saying the pitch lines as if they are dialogue. fascinating stuff for sure!
