Looking back after the election

There are so many things to say about the phenomenon that was Barack Obama’s campaign, but one of the biggies is the role that social media played. People above my pay grade will doubtless analyize all of this, but my mind drifted this morning to an early example from the creative and funny folks at Barely Political. Some may object to the salacious nature of this video, but it should go down as a lesson in how the youth vote for the President-elect was helped by those who know and understand how and why young people consume media.

Ladies and gentlemen, from the time machine that is YouTube, I give you Obama Girl and “’cause I got a crush on Obama” (11.5 million views later):

I also recommend you go to BarelyPolitical.com and watch Obama Girl vote.

  1. darn if i can find it now, but before he actually became a serious candidate one online venue had a doctored photo of O wearing a huge fur coat, a giant spliff in his mouth, a hooker on his arm AND his patented ear-to-ear grin.

only on the internets would you find such fun!
